70 years after the liberation of Auschwitz, it’s easy to believe that ‘never again’ will we see this kind of mass systematic perversion of right and wrong and violation of human dignity on so many levels. It would look nothing like it looked, just as nobody back then had a notable precursor that would help them identify what happened before it got out of hand – which is how it happened in the first place. To make sure that indeed never again does anything like this in its modern form take place, we should stop to ask: is this sort of blind delusion taking place today on any scale (and where?), where is people’s basic human dignity is denied because we are afraid and refuse to look deeper and think for ourselves? How can we create a bigger sense of connection and understanding that fundamentally undermines that tendency?
Below is chilling footage of a drone over Auschwitz via. As a grandchild of a concentration camp prisoner who survived Auschwitz (and a number of others), this resonates deeply.
